Joe Beckmann – Singer/Songwriter/Musician
About Joe Beckmann
Joe Beckmann began playing guitar at the age of fourteen in his
hometown of Islip Terrace, NY. Saving his money from delivering newspapers, Joe rode his bike up to the local music store to buy his first acoustic guitar. Joe began to learn the guitar when a couple of friends showed him some simple chords, from there, Joe taught himself through practice and hard work.
Joe’s style of music, as with most young musicians, was influenced mainly by the recordings of the times. Playing in garage bands most of his youth, playing everything from Marshall Tucker to the Eagles to America and really anything of that generation.
Soon, Joe found himself “married with children” and his guitar playing had to take a back seat for about 15 years. Joe came out of that self imposed hiatus about 15 years ago when he met up with a local singer/songwriter named Ed Ryan. Ed was playing a weekly show at a local restaurant called Shandon Court in East Islip, NY. Ed invited Joe to take the stage with him and from there, suprising to Ed, this turned into a weekly duo act, Joe trying to learn everything he could from Ed. This turned into a lot of fun for both Ed and Joe and soon complements on the sound and harmonies started to be voiced by many patrons.
While playing weekly with Ed, Joe also hooked up with another guitarist/singer, Ward Cloughen. Ward worked at Shandon Court as a waiter and soon Joe found himself playing a second weekly show at the restaurant. Joe and Ward started to gain there own style and fan base on Tuesday nights. This continued for almost 2 years until Joe decided to move his family to Concord, North Carolina.
Since moving to NC, Joe has hit the local Wine Room/Coffee Shop circuit as a solo artist covering everything from the Beatles, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett and many others. Joe has also started writing his own songs and has a few heart-felt originals that he throws into his shows from time to time.
